My finished book cover project for my computer graphics class. Ella Enchanted is one of my favorite books of all time. I read it when I was a kid and still re-read it every couple of years. Critiques welcome! I’m happy with it and it’s handed in for grading, but comments are always useful for future projects.

Newbies

Here’s a quick note on a scary thought.

I noticed I gained a few followers after my picture of downtown Spokane was liked and reposted a few times -tags do miraculous things- WHICH of course I’m happy about! But I just ended up blocking one because it was “spokanefaves: faith news!” who happens to be all about, you guessed it, faith news. I’m not so much into the “keep the gays behind the fence” article.

Here’s my disclaimer:

This blog is mostly my own personal musings/vanity/occasional-art-posting outlet and while I’m happy to follow others and share whatever goes up here, I DO NOT subscribe to any religion, nor do I wish to be enlightened. Further more, I do not believe that anyone should have the right to dictate how someone else lives their life just because their current choice makes you uncomfortable.

This is my tattoo design for my sister and I. I’m suuuuper excited about it! I found an awesome idea for a tattoo on pinterest which inspired the idea. Two sisters had the lines “I’ll like you forever” and “I’ll love you for always” tattooed on their shoulders (one had the first line on her right, the other had the second on her left). I LOVE this and want to do something similar with my sister, but that book isn’t really relevant to us. SO I thought of something much more fitting.
When I was only 2 or so, we used to spend our summers in a cabin on one of the gulf islands off of Vancouver island (Pender island) and I have this great memory of Steph and I -immortalized in video of course- standing above the beach at sunset and reciting this poem, with actions of course! It’s from Winnie the Pooh, which my father used to read to us. I think it will be perfect for us!

As much as I love this picture, I have been a slacker lately and seem to never use my multitude of proper cameras. I’ve fallen into the complacency (and convenience) of camera phone + instagram. I’m going to make more of an effort once this quarter is finally finished.

Volcanography

Ever since taking geology 101 (which clearly makes me an expert now) I’ve developed a weird obsession with volcanoes. I don’t know, maybe it’s my evil villain/ world domination tendencies but, there’s something about the beauty of destruction, even more so the fascination with the unknown. Volcanoes are unpredictable, they can estimate when one might erupt, but not definitively. They also cannot tell how large it may be or how devastating. They both scare and fascinate me, which is probably why I keep all this information in my head (usually I just let it slip out when I’ve passed the class), and since I live so close to so many active and inactive volcanoes, it’s a relevant obsession. If one of the Cascades became active the ash cloud could extend all the way out here to Spokane, and it could destroy large parts of Seattle or surrounding cities. Why do we build so close to something that could cause so much damage?
The ring of fire is the mother load of fascination for me, not only is it full of active volcanoes, but they’re all way down in the deepest parts of the ocean which happens to be another one of my strange obsessions. Oceans, like volcanoes, scare and captivate me. My mind goes crazy imagining all the freaky things we don’t know about down there, of course I’m sure none of it is accurate, but that doesn’t stop my mind from thinking it up.
It’s like a horror movie, I hate it when things jump out at me, but I can’t seem to look away.

-I’m going to have to work this feeling into an  art/design project I think. Maybe then I’ll be able to let it go.

My cover design for a poetry journal, soon to be printed! I also made a poster and t-shirt design for them, but I’m going to save that for when I actually get a t-shirt and properly show it!
